An independent store in a national network
The EUROSPAR at 111–129 Springfield Road is independently owned and run by Belfast retailer Liam McMahon, and it trades as part of the SPAR Northern Ireland network. Both halves of that sentence matter.
SPAR in Northern Ireland works on a symbol group model. Its shops are not company-owned branches: they are independent businesses run by local retailers, supplied and supported by a central buying and distribution operation. EUROSPAR is the larger store format within the network: closer to a small supermarket than a corner shop, with the range to match. Liam McMahon's shop on Springfield Road uses that space for a full grocery shop, with a fuel forecourt, a deli counter and a barista bar alongside it.
